About Me

Hello there!

My name is Richie Gilbert and I'm the guy behind Inspired Songwriting Tips.

Hello there!
writing songs
I'm obsessed with learning how to write great songs. I'm no expert (yet), but I do feel that I've learned a lot about the process over the years.

I'm also obsessed with producing the best recordings of my songs that I can. I use these recordings to pitch my songs to music publishers, in the hope that they can be placed.

In The Beginning...

I was born in Luton, England where I lived until the age of twelve. That's when my family pulled up roots and moved to the U.S.

I've loved music for as long as I can remember, and grew up listening to my Mum and Dad's rock'n'roll 45's. The Beatles, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Everly Brothers; you name it, I loved it!

I began playing the "drums" to these records on my Mum's couch with real drumsticks when I was only four or five. (For you younglings, "records" were thin, black, plastic discs with a hole in the middle. They were played on a "turntable.")!!!

I graduated to real drums at the age of ten, and shortly afterward picked up the guitar. The guitar would prove to be my true love. I learned to play listening to Queen, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and many other big names of the seventies.

My Band Years

At fifteen I started my first band Joker, with some friends from school. We played at youth centres, graduation parties and even got featured on a local cable television show.

At seventeen I joined my brothers' heavy metal band Dammaj (pronounced damage). Throughout the Eighties we played at some of the biggest clubs in the San Francisco Bay Area, supporting acts such as Y&T, Motorhead and Nazareth.

It was during this time that I began writing songs. Dammaj recorded an album, "Mutiny", which was released throughout Europe in 1986, on Roadrunner Records.

In the Nineties I played in the bands Jack The Lad and Krenshaw, but found myself becoming more passionate about songwriting than I was about playing live. I also began building my home recording studio, something that has been evolving for almost twenty years now.

What I'm Doing Now

My recording system

I divide my time between my family, writing and recording my songs, and working on this website.

I designed this site to help you, the aspiring songwriter, improve your craft. I hope I am successful in this.

Please feel free to drop me a line and let me know if any of the info has been helpful to you.

-Richie
